The first narrative, Rhino Hunter [ 28], discusses current practicesthat are intended to preserve endangered species by selling permits to hunters to kill them. Thesecond narrative, Hungry, Hungry People [ 29], describes a plan in the early 20th century toaddress a food shortage in the US by importing hippopotamuses to the bayous of Louisiana. Thefinal narrative, How do you solve a problem like Fritz Haber? [ 30], discusses the German, Nobel-Prize-winning chemist and his discovery of a process to convert atmospheric nitrogen intoliquid-ammonia fertilizer. Additional details regarding the narratives can be found in Brown etal. [15].For each of the critical narrative

incorporating the findings into academic plans urges a significant contributionto the field of engineering education. Fourth, methods used in the study (focus groups andinterviews) are connected with research questions and literature identified earlier, providingdetailed insights from participants. This fulfills the goals of the study about contemplating theimportance of engineering standards, and thus reflects ‘meaningful coherence’ in the study.Positionality Statement There is a possibility of the impact of researcher bias on the interview questions, as theresearcher believes that there is a lack of emphasis on engineering standards in the mechanicalengineering curriculum. This belief is based on the researcher’s experiences during

One needs to continuously have a mental filterof being honest while doing any research task. This is clearly visible in the following statementsby Ramachandra in the context of experimentation: “…plus, I think integrity is very important, because whenever you talk

The project report was evaluated on a 100% scale. Tosatisfy the expectations, students must score 70% or higher for the project report. The percentageof students receiving 70% or higher grades was calculated. The percentages of >90%, >80%,>70%, and <60% were considered exceeding, meeting, minimally meeting, and not meetingexpectations, respectively. Minimally meeting and not meeting expectations required changesmade or plans to do something different in the future, closing the loop for continuousimprovement. It isobvious students will expect that they will receive at least same or equivalent knowledge throughonline compare to face to face interaction. For this reason, clear and specific learning objectivesneeds to be set. Also, short-term plan and long-term goal of the course need to set very beginning. Then need to develop a methodology how effective it is possible to deliver in online system. Afterestablishing specific learning objectives of the course, need to determine evidence students reallyachieve the goal or objective of the course. This information canbe used in practice for enhancing programmatic planning and design as well as potentiallydeveloping novel program components that contribute to students becoming more self-determined,motivated engineers. It is my hope that one day in the near future, engineering education faculty, administrators, and leaders will cultivate and measure success based on a more comprehensiveassessment of lived experiences. Additionally, this research is intended to help leaders betterrecognize how their decisions regarding programmatic structures impact students’ experiences andsuccess.Introduction and Literature OverviewInequalities are deeply rooted in the U.S. education system. Toaccomplish this well, the people involved in instruction planning and teaching must take the timeand care to listen to the students and attempt to understand their experiences, their communitypriorities, and particularly, their deeper world views. The writers reveal through these various cases the importance of acknowledging the IndigenousWorldview. A comprehensive study of the Indigenous worldview is important as many factorswithin the Western worldview of STEM are quite different from the Indigenous worldview.STEM content is to be presented thoughtfully and in a manner that respectfully leverages keyNative ways of understanding Science and Engineering. 2nd year;limited first-year engineering courses thus reducing COE engagement, lack of knowledge aboutthe broad range of engineering disciplines available in COE, and finally difficulties intransferring between majors within COE. It is important to point out that while improving thenumbers (to meet the University’s goals) was important, the committee was focused on makingrecommendations to holistically change the first-year student experience. To respond to thesechallenges, the college leadership team developed a three Phase curricular revision plan: • Phase I: move from pro-school to a continuous progression model; pro-school was phased out in AY19. • Phase II: develop a First Year Engineering Experience (FYEE) directed at

slowlyincreased (Cunninghame et al., 2016), this group still remains largely underrepresented in STEMdisciplines (Moon et al., 2012). This discrepancy in representation reflects larger issues ofmarginalization in STEM fields and higher education at large. Current support structures fordisabled people remain ineffective, as accessing necessary resources requires navigatingphysical, cultural, and bureaucratic barriers (Groen-McCall et al., 2018). These barriers onlycontinue to widen for disabled students planning to pursue engineering careers (Prema & Dhand,2019), as seen in the high unemployment rate for disabled scientists and engineers, which isgreater than that of the entire U.S. labor force (Lee, 2010; NSF, 2017). Yet, disability is rarelyincluded

This paper isa foundation to emphasize the need to look towards the university when considering how Black studentexperiences can be enhanced. encourage students to stay on track with course content is to provide frequent andstrict deadlines for homework or other type of formative assessments, which are often completedasynchronously outside of class time. Check-in dates help students break complex processes intomanageable chunks as they plan and progress through course goals, and final deadlines can helpthem organize and prioritize work and avoid the anxiety of missed work piling up at the end of theterm. Moreover, Felker at al. [9] suggest that giving extra credit for completing assignments earlycan be effective at encouraging students to have better work distribution. However, it is knownthat strict deadline policies may add to students’ stress [10, 11], promote the submission of

A key classroom challengewas dealing with the wide range of coding experience, which spanned as little as one semesterthrough those graduating in a few months with a computer science degree. Our plan was to askmore advanced coders to teach others in their group. For some, this was a valuable andrewarding learning experience, but for others, teaching was not their forte. Helping the studentsunderstand the value of being a mentor was one of the challenges faced by the course instructors. But in the end, there were half a dozen simulators in use in the room, which could not have beencoded without having the interdisciplinary groups. An important objective of our course was to give students

The point of departure for this work is an initial classoffering over ten years ago in which students were invited to choose the readings. Thecontribution of the paper is the identification of a seven dimensional framework for describingten learning experiences that have resulted from the initial starting point of “letting them choose”and the subsequent descriptions of the learning experience along these dimensions. Thisframework represents a foundation for planned additional work including a modeling effort (howchoices along the dimensions activate mechanisms that lead to intended or emergent outcomes),an
