And similarly, the Navy hasembraced alternative modalities for STEM outreach as highlighted by the recent Naval Horizonsinitiative4.ExecutionFor the initial run of the podcast series, we aimed to develop 10 episodes, eight of which have beenreleased as of this writing. A variety of recording formats were utilized in reflection of theevolution of pandemic-related restrictions, from zoom to face-to-face interview to seminarrecording. The audio recordings were edited as needed for podcast suitability, and uploaded to thepodcast hosting service Anchor which enables dissemination via major podcast distributionplatforms (Spotify

approach to learning2. Cognitive presence is defined as “the extent to which learnersare able to construct and confirm meaning through sustained reflection and discourse”3. CoIassumes that learning occurs at the intersection of the three presences – social presence, teachingpresence, and cognitive presence. Cognitive presence represents the means to support and maintaina purposeful learning community, which in our case is the environment of the research learningmodules. It is operationalized through the Practical Inquiry Model (PIM) based on phases ofDewey’s reflective thinking and a collaborative inquiry process2. The PIM provides practical waysto evaluate the nature and quality of critical reflection and discourse through the following four

GTAs were also introduced to academicresources on campus that may be helpful for students in their courses. The workshop format wasdesigned to be interactive with participants engaging in sample inquiry-based learning activitiesand reflecting on their own experiences with inclusive (or not) classrooms. The GTA training workshop described in this paper is part of a larger project that aims to makeactive learning the default method of instruction in highly enrolled gateway courses and todevelop a departmental (and university) culture that

, 16701AbstractCapstone design projects serve as the final opportunity for the senior students to apply theknowledge and skills they have learned in their college programs, and practice team spirit, communication skills, and project management skills to provide practical solutions to engineeringchallenges. It’s the best reflection of how well the current university curricula match industrialneeds. The present paper focuses on discussing the most common gaps between modernundergraduate curricula and the actual requirements of the industry and explores the reasonsbehind those gaps. The discussions are inspiring for curriculum design and development in thefuture to match the fast-shifting industrial needs in the real world.KeywordsCapstone projects, Curricula

Senior students also serve as mentors to junior students.Literature Review & MethodologyResearch shows that students actively working on hands-on engineering projects learn above andbeyond the traditional classroom instruction. Kokotsaki et. al. [1] indicate that active student-centered form of instruction leads to student autonomy, constructive investigation, goal-settingcollaboration, and enhanced communication skills. Projects like this also address a wider set oflearning styles, promotes critical and proactive thinking, and reflection. Mills et. al. [2, 8] arguethat

DiscussionThere were 136 responses collected. The participants broadly reflect the demographics of thesampled population in terms of age (M = 21.2, SD = 5.3), race (78.7% White or Caucasian, 8.8%Black or African American, 12.5% other), and gender identity (58.1% male, 38.2% female, 3.7%nonbinary). With regards to classification, 35.3% of respondents were underclassmen (freshmenor sophomores) and 64.7% of students were upperclassmen (juniors, seniors, and 5+ year seniors).A breakdown of degree program representation overall and by gender is presented in Table 1. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2023 2023 ASEE Southeastern Section ConferenceTable 1: Degree program breakdown

The questionsmust be randomly selected from a large pool, so it will not allow direct replication of results in anew attempt. Analyzing the attempts and

that new concepts are often introduced very well using formulas and definitions, but withlittle relation to day-to-day experiences. Such a problem is not an exception in calculus, especially when teaching derivatives. This paper provides examples that reflect everydayexperiences while providing insight on the foundational ideas behind derivatives. The focus is onvisual examples and interactive problems to make the idea of derivatives more digestible beforedelving into more complex mathematical definitions. The goal of this paper is to provide supplemental material to instructors to introduce the conceptof derivatives without overwhelming students with equations and definitions. The material is notmeant to replace or compete with current textbook

tables and chairs. However, the university started believing "there is no front to an active classroom" and removed whiteboards and replaced them with glass boards in these active-learning classrooms. These boards were hard to write on and reflected the classroom lights. The boards also had limited writing space, even for short lectures. The first author moved the class to a "regular" auditorium with many more seats than students, for example, having 80 students in an auditorium that seats 140. The effectiveness of active learning did not suffer much. Leaving every other row vacant allowed the instructor and the teaching assistants to move around fully © American Society for

This lack of accurate data handling andanalysis resulted in all day meetings with functional managers from all departments to interpretthe data being assessed.By late 2020 the increased processing time coupled with continued sales growth and the leanstaffing began to manifest itself in poor employee performance and moral.
