. These criteria attach significance to thequality of experience the elderly have when interacting with the design, and their psychologicalsatisfaction through combined human computer interaction (HCI) with participatory design [17].Integrating immersive technologies and game engines with BIM can offer design professionalsmore than just the virtual mockup and digital representation. Clients can dive into the virtualenvironment to simulate experiential space interactions through self-guided or automated virtualwalkthrough, perform interactive tasks and provide designers with meaningful real-timefeedback on spatial quality, design comprehension and satisfaction [17, 16].Recently, BIM and game engine has also been broadly integrated in pedagogical

technology within the School of Construction. As a practitioner, Ms. Bounds has used Revit and BIM to improve interior design processes. Throughout her career, Ms. Bounds has worked closely with architects, engineers and facility managers and is keenly aware of the extensive data and coordination that large projects require. The aim of her research is to leverage BIM’s capabilities in the interior architectural field and to train a future generation of interior designers to integrate their work with those of the architectural, engineering and facility management professions. with challenges that are vastly different from the challenges facedby previous generations. These challenges include global competition, intelligent technology, and a constantly changing work environment. But the speed with which this civilizationcontinues to advance is fundamentally challenging the way in which engineering is practiced andthe way in which engineering and engineering technology students are educated. Technologicalbreakthroughs—the Internet and apple products most prominent among them—have effected anincreasingly global “workplace” in which the collaborative efforts of multinational teams areunhampered by geographical distance or time zones, and this global workplace in turn isintroducing new imperatives not only to engineering

”Habilitation” (HDR) degree from Pierre and Marie Curie University - Paris VI, Sorbonne Universities (2011) in the area of Engineering Sciences. Prior to his actual position, he was an Associate Professor at University of Wyoming (UW) and prior to that he was an Assistant Professor and the Director of the AE Program at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He participated significantly to the development of the current architectural engineering undergraduate and master’s programs at IIT. During his stay at IIT, he taught thermal and fluids engineering (thermody- namics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics), building sciences, physical performance of buildings, building enclosure, as well as design courses, such as HVAC

architecture. Forthe architecture students it was a first experience in having to request, manage andappropriately integrate outside technical knowledge into their design process, for theengineering students it was their first exposure to the design process and the multifacetedway their highly specific skills are deployed in a real world process. The teaching, evaluation and assessment of the courses represent an opportunity for educators to thinkabout the role of service learning in architecture and engineering education. The Bergcompelled students to integrate technology and structure in the design process, requiredstructural engineers to and as such can be seen as experiments in advancing designpedagogy.BackgroundDesign build, community service and
