electrical energy to mechanical energy) and generatormode (conversion from mechanical energy to electrical energy). In each mode, the system can befurther reconfigured to various motor/generator architectures, such as series DC motors, shuntDC motors, compound DC motors, AC motors, single-phase generators, and three-phasegenerators. In total, the system is capable of demonstrating more than 50 realisticmotor/generator configurations. The electro-mechanical energy conversion system is depicted in Figure 1. It is comprised of fourmajor components:(i) A reconfigurable machine; (iii) A programmable controller;(ii) An actuator with built-in sensors; (iv) A data collector. These four components are coordinated by a personal

will alleviate some major issues that have already been identified asfollows: some of current trainers use power systems of 120 volts alternating current which can bevery dangerous [1]. Parallax error and soft limitation can be seen as obtained by measurement.Perhaps, the most crippling disadvantage of the current equipment is the low number of usablePLCs.By using the new trainers, visualization of topics is possible which helps students to betterunderstand the topics. The trainers also give digital input and output and analog input and output. It is controlled manually by using motors and automatically by using sensors.Problem StatementThe main problems associated with PLCs can be broken down into the following list: • Getting new hardware

necessary to implement theproject. In the end, this course is used to provide students with real world experience which willserve them well over the course of their future career. In order to enhance the machine design course in a manner consistent with the objectives set forthby the engineering technology department for the mechatronics and mechanical engineeringprograms. A new vending machine system will be implemented into the course [1, 2]. The machinedesign course would be greatly improved by the implementation of a vending machine project inseveral ways [3]. First of all, this would allow students to gain real world experience with theconcepts seen in machine design course while performing real hands on work with a system thatthey see every

cleaning or using printers [1, 2].Software and Hardware Design of Mobile RobotThe design of the a Environmental robot to detect IAQ is a daunting problem due to the largenumber of separate sources of organic and inorganic compounds that present problems forhuman health. Developing a mobile robotic platform that can be controlled both manually andautonomously is also a significant challenge. We dealt with the first issue of sensors for therobot to include only the bare basics, of temperature and relative humidity. We also added a gasboard that was used to detect CO levels in the building. We decided to use the Open SourceRobotic Operating System (ROS) to develop our mobile robot. ROS provided most of thesoftware for a mobile robot. ROS provided

country by 2015”. This need will have a strongeffect in high need school districts and thus the President’s Educate to Innovate campaign (2010)calls for an increase in “STEM literacy so that all students can learn deeply and think critically inscience, math, engineering, and technology.”STEM is primary driver of the future economy and hence the increasing number of jobs at alllevels require knowledge of STEM [1]. Research shows that insufficient training, time, andincentives are among the most commonly cited barriers for faculty effectiveness [2]. Manyfaculty have indicated that in terms of training they feel not well equipped and prepared to meetthe challenges that comes along in teaching STEM. Furthermore, research also suggest that theteachers

various manufacturers.Motion analysis of Mechatronics system using modeling is a very dynamic, inexpensive, and Page 1 of 15provides Mechatronics system manufacturer vital information at the design and developmentstage.Introduction:As the automation in industries has become more promising and technology for motion control ofelectric drives became available, the use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) with powerelectronics in electric machines applications has been introduced in the manufacturing process. Aprogrammable logic controller (PLC) is an industrialized computer control system that constantlymonitors the state of input devices and makes decisions

actuators ofthe robot are servo motors (Dynamixel) and these motors are directly controlled through a low-level control algorithm. To simplify the control, the system is modeled such that the plate has two-axis linearized motion. This system along with the approaches proposed in this work has potentialto be used as a demonstration testbed for students to learn ROS with control theories in robotics.1. IntroductionRobotics has been growing past the traditional engineering techniques emerging as a newer fieldof modern technology that requires various knowledge from mechanical and electrical engineeringand computer science. When commercial robots are used, the approaches to these robots areprovided by their manufacturers in the form of GUI (Graphical

accumulate, inducing a voltage difference. By utilizing thephenomena of piezoelectricity, piezoelectric materials are commonly implemented in micro andnano actuators and sensors. Piezoelectric materials, in particular lead zirconate titanate ceramics, are used in applications that require control of displacement within a small range of motion withhigh precision and high resolution. Therefore, the piezoelectric materials are commonly used inmicro-positioning systems such as in Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) [1]. They are used innumerous fields such as biomedical, automotive, aerospace and optical engineering [2].Piezoelectric materials are used as flexible structures to replace the bulky classic mechanical, thusoccupying less space in the micro

oftemperature in RFID will be discussed.1. IntroductionRecently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has received a great attention and widelyadopted and popularly used in many applications such as agriculture, forest industry, hospital, toll way, manufacturing industry, etc. The advantages of RFID usage in those applications aremainly tracking and real-time monitoring [1-3]. The traditional method used in industry wasbarcode, which has several disadvantages such as line of sight reading, limited data storage, andnon-programmability [4]. Instead, RFID uses a tag that communicates with reader using neardistance wireless communication. In addition, it can store the data that can be read by RFIDreader through its antenna. There are three components in
