The codebooks with the three best scores are selected. Based onthese scores, a weighted linear combination of the SNR estimates corresponding to thesethree codebooks determines the final SNR estimate. This is known as a soft decisionapproach [1].The student research team implemented the VQ based system and a similar system basedon a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) classifier. For this case, a GMM model for eachSNR value is designed using the Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm [9][10].
