comprehensive studies exploring student roles played, ABET relatedoutcomes, and impacts on class and career readiness.In the spring of 2017 (from May 2 to May 14, 2017), a confidential online survey wasadministered to students involved in an activity at the BIC. In total, 52 students providedresponses to the survey. The majority of these students were involved with a competitionteam/club (73%, N=38). About a quarter of students either used the BIC for their capstoneprojects (15%, N=8) or were involved in other activities (12%, N=6). The results from thissurvey are reported with appropriate IRB approvals.Students were asked to indicate how much their BIC experience(s) contributed to their ability toengage in various behaviors. frameworks exist for characterizing individual differences; our choices are basedon the rigor of the underlying theories and the reliability and validity of the related assessmentinstruments. In this paper, we will focus on our use of Kirton’s Adaption-Innovation Theory [27]and the KAI® (Kirton Adaption-Innovation inventory), which measures individual cognitive style[26]. We are also exploring the use of ABAKAS, a validated measure of engineeringinnovativeness based on Ferguson, et al.’s model of that construct [13, 14]; that work will bepresented in future publications. The individual cognitive style data provided by KAI was used inthe current study to supplement the team interaction data provided by IDN to develop a richerpicture of I-Corps™ team

Entrepreneurial Mindset in the freshmandesign course and utilized a project that involve a fictitious company and focused onidentification and validation of market opportunities in the project [11]. In other efforts,customers were incorporated, but they were either fictional or local. For example, Jensen andSchlegel have modified their first year mini-golf hole design project to require students tointerview potential mini-golf customers. real software products.Tech Startup Model. The Tech Startup process begins with the onset of the semester, when instructors presenta general overview of semester-long projects and charge students to brainstorm project ideas forsoftware to develop. With the popularity of social media, web services, and prevalence ofsmartphones, most projects proposed involve web and/or mobile applications. In the followinglecture, the project proposals are shared among all students and each student expresses whichproject(s) to which they wish to contribute. Based on their preferences, we form teams of about 5software engineering students with 1-2 entrepreneurship students. Students are expected toarrange times outside of class to meet regularly to work
