laboratory experiments. However, troubleshooting of equipment and complex machines are not given sufficient attentionfor a typical industrial setting during regular engineering coursework. Purdue UniversityNorthwest’s Outcome Based Education allows students to gain hands-on experiencetroubleshooting complex circuits, machines, and their subsystems. In order to familiarize students with troubleshooting and identifying equipment failures, theresurrection of a relatively complex and non-functional NovaMill 3-Axis CNC Milling Machineis selected as a Capstone Senior Design project. The objectives of this project include identifyingthe different sub-systems of the machine, isolating each sub-system, testing and documentationof initial status, identification

project is a feasibility study anddesign for the installation of threeNLine Microsteam™ turbines(MSTs) in the University of Idaho’scampus steam power plant. Asshown in Figure 1, there are threenatural gas boilers as well as oneprimary wood boiler that produce thesteam. Natural gas is the backupenergy source, used only inemergencies. Wood chips, acompletely renewable local resource,is the primary energy source. Thesteam exits the boilers at a pressureof about 170 psi and feeds into acommon manifold. The pressure isthen reduced to 35 psi for campusdistribution by three pressureregulating valves (PRVs) connectedin parallel. This pressure reductionmethod wastes a great deal ofenergy. In the present topology, thereis no way of capturing the energy

measurements and instrumentation course. The module consists of five hours oflectures, which covers the theory, and a design lab project. The lecture covers the IoT conceptssuch as analytics, webservers, communication and data protocols. The design lab project requiresstudents to implement the theory into a practical application. In this paper, the detail of the module is described. It is expected that our experience can behelpful to other engineering instructors seeking to develop an IoT course or just adding a sectionto their measurements and instrumentation course.Measurements and Instrumentation Measurement and Instrumentation (M&I) course is commonly offered for electrical andmechanical engineering or technology students. toprogram Quad-Copter Drone by using the software called scratch developed by Massachusetts Instituteof Technology (MIT). This paper will also discuss the student group projects presented on the last dayof the summer session and performance based on attainment of learning outcomes are evaluated by thefaculty members. Some the items that were evaluated during the labs were how to follow FederalAviation Administration Part 107 Regulations including pilot certification and drone safety, dronesystem components, aerodynamics, programming, flight preparation and planning and lastly summaryreporting. In addition, the paper will also present the results of the survey given to the participants todetermine the effectiveness of the five-week summer

Instrumentation and Data Acquisition course offed by the MET and EETprogram, respectively. This course focuses on interfacing of the sensors and actuators withmicro-controllers, electrical wiring and programming with fundamental understanding of sensorsand actuators.A number of different approaches are suggested in the literature for the mechatronics course, e.g.,project-based approach [9] and competition based approach [10], to name a few. Keeping in mindthe diverse background of students enrolling in the course, i.e., EET and MET, and basicknowledge of electric circuits as the prerequisite, the course reviews fundamental analog anddigital circuits to bring the students to a level where they can learn programming concepts. Toemphasize on the hands-on

to the principles ofoperation and electrical behavior of a number of electronic devices (principally the p-n junctiondiode, the MOSFET, and the BJT). An understanding of the I-V characteristics of these devicesis indispensable to understanding their use in circuits exploiting them as either linear or nonlineardevices. While simulation is valuable, it is arguably not a replacement of the demonstration ofthe I-V characteristics of real devices. A brief survey of ASEE literature on educational use ofcurve tracers is summarized below.Shwehdi et al [1] described a senior design project to build an instrument for measurement of thecurrent gain of NPN BJTs. This was not a curve tracer per se.Beams [2] described curve tracers that used an ad hoc

right or left to reduce the horizontalposition error to a low range acceptable for a locked on target condition. If the rotation constant wastoo high the Drone could gyrate left and right never locking onto target. If the rotation constant was toolow the Drone would take a long time to lock onto the target. In addition to the above the students also needed to understand the Blue Green Red (BGR) and the HueSaturation Value (HSV) color model. The shape of the object or marker did not matter, so long as thecolor was within the HSV high/low limits set in the track/follow code. The students had to insure thoseacceptable HSL colors were not in the area where the Drone was operating. The students did not know how to program coming into the REAP project

the summer of 2018 and ran for thefirst time during the fall of the 2018-19 academic school year. The lab will help students staycurrent with the advances in fluid power technology and support capstone senior projects, elective courses, and undergraduate research. Additionally, it will reinforce the fundamentals ofautomatic control systems in the associated required senior level course. The main objectives ofthe lab pertaining to the automatic controls course are to: 1. Prepare students to work on real-world motion control applications by providing them with hands-on experiences applying control system design ideas and concepts. 2. Expose students to electromechanical and fluid power hardware. 3. Educate students about the benefits

as well as intrapersonalskills. The new millennium also needs an enlightened workforce that possesses written and oralcommunication skills in addition to acquiring in–depth knowledge in their chosen discipline. Leading scholars in the area of Cognitive Science and Educational Methodologies haveconcluded that it is essential that students need to be taught in a creative learning environment.Educators who utilize the Discovery Approach help students acquire much needed real–worldproblem–solving skills. In this paper the author outlines how interactive projects can help theinstructor in promoting a problem–based learning environment. Furthermore, he also providesinitial results of his assessment data.Introduction Educators

multiple wireless sensors. Wi-Fi for connectionbetween wireless node and Raspberry Pi and client-server communication for data transfer fromwireless node to Raspberry Pi were used in their project. Raspberry Pi application was extendedto home automation and Rao and Uma built the home automation system using Raspberry Pi [4].Raspberry Pi is located between router and home IoT devices to provide the updated data andremote control through Internet. Another application is surveillance system. Prasad and et. al.used it to collect and store the data from surveillance cameras and updated data can be seen at thesmartphone through cellular network [5]. In education, Raspberry Pi is mostly used to teachprogramming who cannot afford a high-end computer. It
