Paper ID #41143Motivating Students to Engage, Collaborate, and Persist with Classroom PodcastCreationDr. Thomas Lucas, Purdue University Dr. Lucas’ primary goal as a professor is to engage with students in the classroom and inspire them to develop their passion, understanding, and appreciation for STEM-based research and industry roles. This is accomplished by providing well-crafted and innovative learning experiences in engineering technology courses and through extracurricular outreach. His research background is in 3D (out-of-plane) micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) sensor and actuator design. His current teaching

on the relationship betweenclasses starting at 8:00 AM and engineering technology courses. As a result, the new analysispresented in this paper aims to shed light on the best times to schedule different engineeringtechnology courses.Methodology:This study uses statistical analysis to examine the relationship between the time of courseoffering and student performance. The study was completed at a top-tier research universityusing data from a 100 level undergraduate engineering mechanical design course. The coursewas chosen because it was taught by the same instructor with the same material for 6 consecutivesemesters with alternating start times; it was offered at 8:00AM in the Fall semester and12:30PM in the Spring semester. This study's main

. The new degree program was launched in the Autumn of 2020 at the OhioState University. Offered by the regional campuses which have traditionally been feeder campusesto the central campus, this employer-driven program will prepare graduates for high-demandmanufacturing occupations that require strong technical and management skills. The curriculum for the four-year degree program was based on industry needs that will allowgraduates of the program to help the state build the manufacturing workforce needed to competeand thrive. The curriculum is driven by a rigorous assessment process and foundational skills formathematics, physics, engineering, and management skills including the following: problem-solving, innovation, leadership, and change

Such an analysis will be performed both at the beginning usingdomain expertise but also during the experiment analyzing the answers received and adaptingprior decisions.Step 3: However, not all categories have the same contribution. Therefore, the researchers hadto identify the relative relevance of the determined categories. For instance, the inputs from ajunior respondent being as relevant as the inputs from a senior level respondent need to bedetermined. A senior level respondent may be more experienced and have more knowledge inprinciple and current best practices of the field, but it may also be the case that a junior levelrespondent may be more aware of the emerging

While the current size of crowd experts (15) is greater than a typical curriculumcommittee, it will be interesting to view the results when 50+ crowd experts provide their inputsby the end of May 2023. The research also only focused on one course’s curriculum within anacademic program. It will be interesting to see how the expert crowd responds and achievesconsensus when another course’s curriculum is in question. Another limitation was of theLinkedIn Campaign Ad features. When targeting users for their crowd participation, the jobpositions for security professionals and security management were

style in noway reflects an engineer’s requirement in their job which includes teamwork and multi-disciplineproblem solving skills [1]. Project-based learning (PBL) is a part of a pedagogical practice thatinvolves a wide range of engineering requirements methods. However, this learning method hasnot been holistically implemented [2]. To help with this issue, ABET, in its most recent guidanceis pushing for more PBL which research has shown as key and most prevailing attribute amongsuccessful graduate engineers within the industry [1]. The prevalent method for teaching inengineering disciplines is the “Chalk and Talk” approach. The instructor will lecture and thestudent will be a passive learner, not a student centered method [1]. students.Whereas an industrial relations specialist is helpful with many aspects of developing industrypartnerships (ie: bringing awareness of job opportunities to students, providing a single point ofcontact for local industry to connect to the college), it was found that the best method to increaseindustry sponsored projects was to have faculty connect directly with industry partners. Thiscreates an avenue for sharing of specialty expertise areas for problem solving. To this end, specific College of Technology faculty have been tasked with the responsibility to connectdirectly with industry and identify viable projects that students will work on under the tutelage ofa faculty expert. In addition, a new facility called the Center for Innovation and Design

community.IntroductionEngineering Technology programs, including both two year and four year tracks, continue togrow. Engineering and Engineering Technology by the Numbers [3] published that there were14,312 degrees awarded in the year 2019 alone. These degrees come from 111 institutions thatgrant Engineering Technology degrees [3]. Despite the considerable number of degrees awardedin Engineering Technology disciplines, there is little research conducted on the experiences ofEngineering Technology students.Like Engineering Science degree earners, Engineering Technology students may test forprofessional engineering licensure in 35 states. Although the procedures in testing for a licensemay vary, Engineering Technology graduates may pursue careers as professional engineers
