Warm milk is flowing slowly (v = 6 cm s-1) in laminar fashion (no chaotic mixing) through it. The milk entering the tube is chocolate-free (0.0 g cm-3). while studying chemical engineering.Multiple methods were used to collect data. Demographic information, the grit-S, andengineering identity instruments were collected for chemical engineering students at aresearch institution via Qualtrics. Two students consented to participate in the semi-structured interviews. This pilot contrasts Kate and Dan’s quantitative measures ofsuccess (GPA, grit, engineering identity) with their qualitative experiences from theinterview. Additionally, Kate and Dan’s engineering identity scores were compared to‘other’ senior engineering students’ scores to describe the different ways of definingsuccess.This work shares two student experiences that expand the common definition of success as gettinggood grades. lab was effective, the sample size shouldbe expanded to 30 or more to represent a more significant population and reduce error. Inaddition to evaluating more students, the user experience can be improved with additionalexperimental data and enhanced graphics with moving images or changing images. This wouldincrease engagement and visual association, which would be beneficial when the virtual lab isacting as a pre-lab to a physical unit operations lab.
