course.In all but one case, the data extracted for ABET assessment (i.e., the data included in the self-study to demonstrate student achievement) came from the senior capstone design experience.The capstone rubrics, however, varied considerably in the information component required, withmost rubrics not mentioning sources or references explicitly. All institutions reported studentperformance directly, but two also indicated student surveys (i.e., self-assessments) as sources ofdata for this outcome (they were transitioning out of that assessment method). Engineering, all first-year students follow a commoncurriculum, as part of a “Cornerstone to Capstone” curriculum design adopted in 2015. TheCornerstone course is taken in the students’ first year, and uses projects to emphasize the ways inwhich engineering can develop practical problem-solving applications. The course was carefullydesigned to help first-year students achieve success in the program regardless of the specificengineering major they select in their second year. Engineering senior lab course. The objective of this research project wasto determine if, and to what extent, integrating information fluency instruction pertaining to theethical use of images into engineering lab sessions improves the quality of information fluencyskills demonstrated in student presentations. A rubric was used to assess the use of images instudent presentations for two criteria: 1) attribution and 2) use of images that have appropriateCreative Commons license, have public domain status, or are original creations. Studentscompleted an initial lab presentation early in the semester with no information fluencyinstruction. Students then received direct in-person instruction in the ethical use of imagery froma librarian specifically
