Society for Engineering Education, 2015 Innovative Embedded Systems ProjectAbstractThe goal of an Embedded Design course is to teach programming, embedded circuits and softwarealgorithms. There are also related goals, such as learning to use development tools, lab equipmentand proper debugging techniques. There are tangential goals such as working in teams andpreparation for senior/capstone projects. And while there are a variety of approaches to teaching, the common theme is that you want the students to be successful and understand the material asthoroughly as possible. Each year, there are new peripherals, new processors and most engineering departments do not takea static approach to education and try to include more

In an active underground mine, there are several hazards a worker can face. Theimplementation of autonomous control of the mobile equipment used in these mining operationsis one of the ways to cut down the number of injuries. It can also result in less time wasted for theworkers as well as an overall safer mining environment. With autonomous vehicles in undergroundmines, it is less likely for accidents to occur involving mine

Students learning outcomes were evaluated using pre and post survey, focus group’s evaluation, and peer evaluation. A sensitivity analysis was also conducted tojustify effectiveness of new learning outcomes. All students agreed that the course projectincreased their knowledge and skills to solve engineering problems in global settings. About92% students responded that the project increased their interest about different cultures andmulti-perspective analysis, and 72% students, up 52% from pre-survey, said that the project washelpful understanding engineering and

This paper analyzes the student learning outcomes, forEngineering and Engineering Technology (E&ET) programs, where the curriculum has beentailored to include undergraduate research, as compared to lecture & lab-based curriculum.Previous research, on which the present work is based, shows that research projects allowstudents to explore, discover and innovate in a limited period of time and space. Theliterature reveals that undergraduate research helps to integrate students with the faculty andresults in publications which appear in peer-reviewed journals. Thus the student is able tocreate portfolios that shed light on their learning and skills development in the professions.Through this work, the following

Project Final ReportAbstractRecently, educators have worked to improve STEM education at all levels, but challengesremain. Capitalizing on the appeal of robotics is one strategy proposed to increase STEMinterest. The interdisciplinary nature of robots, which involve motors, sensors, and programs, make robotics a useful STEM pedagogical tool. There is also a significant need for industrialcertification programs in robotics. Robots are increasingly used across industry sectors toimprove production throughputs while maintaining product quality. The benefits of robotics, however, depend on workers with up-to-date knowledge and skills to maintain and use existingrobots, enhance future technologies, and educate users. It is critical that education
