will havefundamentals presented in a prerecorded lecture, and problems with experiments will be assignedto further develop engineering tools in class. This will give the students the next set of tools theyneed to solve the project for that given module. In addition, the first weeks of the semester willserve as onboarding to college, with freshman success workshops and career developmentactivities continually being incorporated. The hypothesis is that this approach will take the course from a refresher course to a trueintroduction to engineering technology. It is anticipated that a higher-level math student will stayengaged through the projects, and the application of teams will enable them to assist lower-levelmath students in learning

Bringing together bright minds to attack a design problem functionallyand systematically can test the boundaries of all team members. “For some professionally, vocationally, or technically oriented careers, curricula delivered in higher educationestablishments may focus on teaching material related to a single discipline. By contrast, multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary teaching (MITT) results in improvedaffective and cognitive learning and critical thinking, offering learners/students the opportunityto obtain a broad general knowledge base” Pooley, Alison and Wanigarathna, Nadeeshani(2016).KeywordsShipping

projects. Over the years, manyprojects had significant impact on local industry, and many students have progressed to high-level positions in their careers since graduating. In the mid-1990s, this changed as enrollment increased and more full-time students began toenter the student body. Formal class meetings with defined objectives emerged coinciding withABET’s TC2K criterion. Fewer industrial projects were available to students, and the facultystruggled to work with students to find appropriate projects. Funding of projects without industrybacking also became a new hurdle to overcome. Many of these changes occurred as ABET waschanging to outcomes based assessment as part of the TC2K paradigm shift in accreditation. After the change to TC2K, PNW’s

Engineering Education Employers have increasingly emphasized the need for engineering graduates to havetraining in communication to support effective collaboration across national, cultural, contextualand disciplinary boundaries [11]. In fact, technical communication training has been shown tohave a positive impact on a graduate’s ability to adjust to jobs and achieve career goals [12]. Atechnical communication elective has long been a requirement at top universities, but only afraction require instruction that is integrated within the engineering context [13, 14]. Success hasbeen shown when offering integrated experiences using appropriate tools, and in a diversecontext [15], but inclusion of this type of curriculum is not as common as

curriculum chartThroughout the life of the ET program, the two senior design classes, as well as research, educational, andhands-on projects embedded in other high-level classes, were used to supplement the knowledge andskills of the ET students to equip them with the important skills and prepare them for their career. At theend of these projects, students conclude their experience and present their work at local conferences, professional meetings, and school showcases. This comes in the form of oral presentations, posters, aswell as professional conference proceedings [1 - 11]. Furthermore, some groups prepare a detailed studentmanual for the project they completed so that it can be used later on to guide other groups in getting thesame knowledge

ET in APSU offers ETAC of ABET accredited degree programs at the four-year bachelor's degree level. For people interested in gaining practical skills, this degree can bean ideal fit. With its focus on applications, it fits the person who has been in the workplace andnow needs a degree for advancement as well as others wanting a hands-on approach toengineering and technology [5]. The ET program prepares students for technical careers inmultiple concentrations (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and mechatronics) in a widerange of applications and provides leadership in developing solutions to industrial problems [6],[7], [8]. The primary method of instruction for courses in the various concentrations in the ETprograms is based on the
