characteristic of integrating theory and practice, therefore, interdisciplinarity, research, and extension are fundamental steps for an integralformation of the engineer [1]. A. Ribas Neto, M. Fiorin and T. Dequigiovani [2] comment onthe importance of applying projects in building students' knowledge of the technologydegrees. When searching for these courses, it is possible to find a large list of courses thatcontain integrative projects in their curriculum so that students develop knowledge in anintegrated way and help in understanding what each course proposes to offer. C. CechellaPhilippi [3], defines an integrative project as an inter and multidisciplinary pedagogicalpractice that relates the topics and contents taught in the classroom

ofcourses.Embedded CoursesIn electrical and computing disciplines, curriculum is set up so that programming and embeddedsystems are taught through a variety of courses. These courses can include programming(structured procedural design and object-oriented design), Digital Design, and microprocessorsand microcontrollers (introduction, intermediate, and advanced). Additionally, systems-orientedcourses (e.g., Communication Systems, Control Systems, Senior-level Project-based courses, etc.) typically include embedded systems as an integral component.C/C++ programming is often used with embedded systems courses as the core component. Anintroductory microprocessors and microcontrollers course may utilize C programming on an“Arduino” type computer board. Students

andautomation in the fall of 2018. This program, the first engineering program on campus, is mix ofelectrical, mechanical, and computer engineering appropriate for developing robotic systems. Aspart of the engineering curriculum, students take an electronics course in the spring semester oftheir second year. The course introduces students to the behavior of circuits and elements whenvarying voltage sources are used. The frequency response of circuits is of particular interest. Thisprovides an opportunity to introduce the concept of automating data acquisition and analysis. Weare taking advantage of this opportunity.Program DescriptionThe Engineering Physics program (Program) is focused on robotics and automation. Thecurriculum consists of classes in

results (right)4.0 Assessment and Learning OutcomesLearning can be categorized into developing skills in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotordomains. Higher education focuses largely on the cognitive domain following Bloom’s taxonomy– knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation [11]. ABEToutcomes for engineering education integrate developing student abilities in both the affectivedomain by emphasizing soft skills and the cognitive domain by promoting critical thinking andcreativity [12]. While lecture-based instruction is essential from the point of view of deliveringcontent knowledge appropriate for an engineering curriculum, blending active, cooperative, andproblem-based learning with course lectures

failure. In thisproject, this was achieved by breaking up the BMS into several separate ‘child-units’ created byInfineon-device monitoring, one module at a time. An ESP-32, a Low-cost, Low-Power system-on-a-chip L-PSoC microcontroller with integrated Wi-Fi and dual-mode Bluetooth, was used to turnthe ISO-UART connection to the master board into a Wi-Fi connection. This conversion ofconnection type is the basis of what is now a wireless D-BMS, and all data was then transferred toa MATLAB script for data to be visualized and analyzed. As an instructional project, the D-BMSsystem incorporates knowledge of battery management, distributed computing, and wirelesscommunication.IntroductionBattery Management Systems (BMS) play a critical role in the
