gamedesign class was offered as a technical elective. This class combined a “humanities” viewpoint ofvideo game design (e.g. gaming psychology, theory of fun) with the “technical” side of computerprogramming and physics engines. Students compared and contrasted two games and wrote acritical analysis of a game. The majority of the class was spent conceptualizing, planning andcreating a video game. Groups learned the required programming skills as needed to implementtheir vision. Students completed a survey at the conclusion of the course. Generally, students foundthe course exercised their creative skills, motivated them to learn more programming and providedthem experience in project management.Keywordsvideo games, computer programming, elective

-basedElectromagnetic Fields (EMF) course. Projects provided an opportunity for the students to evaluateEMF theories with hands-on experiments. Students’ feedback showed that more than 80% ofstudents had positive learning experiences with projects. Overall, students enjoyed the coursestructure that adopted active learning techniques with projects. From the instructor point of view, managing projects in a theory-based course require early planning and continuous communicationwith students.References:[1] Y. Xu, K. Meehan and C. V. the last graded assignment prior to the exam available for pickup any time on theday before the exam. This is done voluntarily, so not all students decide to make the effort to pickup the assignment. This work aims to investigate the differences in grade performance of studentswho did pick up their last homework assignment with those who did not pick up their lasthomework assignment prior to taking a midterm exam.MethodologyData were collected for this study across two sections of dynamics implemented during the samesemester. Students in this course are typically sophomore students planning on majoring inmechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or civil engineering. The names of students whodid not pick up their homework assignment

ComputerAided Drafting and Design (CADD) course. The first approach is the incorporation of hands-onexercises that follow Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. The second approach is the development of alearning community where it is built focusing on the Computer Aided Drafting and Design andManufacturing Processes courses. This paper provides an overview of the two approachesincluding their objectives, exercises, projects, and future plans. The design and development ofthe exercises and projects will be discussed in detail.KeywordsApplied learning, Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, Learning Communities, CADDIntroductionFirst year of college is an important year to freshman students. elasticity of aluminum in Project 1 was 16%. For project 2, the minimum error inthe measurement of the shear modulus in project 2 was 5%. On the other hand, the maximumerror in the measurement of modulus of elasticity and shear modulus of aluminum in Project 1 andProject 2 were 73% and 21%, respectively. The feedback session identified factors that helpedstudent teams increase the repeatability and robustness of their testers and yielded a greatermeasurement accuracy.Throughout the DBT experience in the Solid Mechanics Lab, obtaining of some parts and materialsproved to be challenging, as the students were tempted to utilize sophisticated subsystems andcomponents in the design. As such, the advanced planning is critical. To further enhance
