Villanova has also been very engaged with other KEEN colleges incompetitions and in sharing classroom materials and experiences.Despite much success to date, there remains a low participation rate for full-timeengineering faculty in KEEN-related activities beyond the core faculty teaching in theengineering entrepreneurship minor program. -time hybrid simulation forearthquake engineering research. The purpose of the project is to evaluate the effects of delay onreal-time hybrid simulation and to apply a probabilistic approach for reliability assessment.MATLAB and Simulink are used and probabilistic concepts are applied to account forcharacteristics of one hundred ground motions. This research internship program allows for thedevelopment of project management, time management and teamwork skills, thus helpingstrengthen students’ knowledge of seismic design in civil engineering and prepare them forsuccessful academic and professional careers. In thisresearch, third and fourth year undergraduate mechanical engineering students were guidedthrough the process of designing learning aid prototypes to be used in general engineeringeducation. Students were encouraged to use advanced technologies such as 3D printing and virtualsimulation to realize their concepts. While this paper offers an overviewof the design and evaluation of this project, the primary focus is on the findings from our largelyqualitative dataset and their implications for facilitating supportive communities for graduatewomen in STEM.
