Computer simulators can substitute for hands-on learning but are notnecessarily as effective, especially for kinesthetic learners, and typically limit the amountof collaborative work possible. The topic of his dissertation is theoretical guarantees and practical algorithms for Approximate Dynamic Programming. He received the B.Eng. degree in mechanical engineering and B.Sc. in physics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2008, and the M.Sc. degree in robotics, systems and control from ETH Zurich in 2014.
