Of the 31 students that took the final exam, 81% answered either 4 or 5 (on a scale of 1–5)in answer to the question, “What is your opinion of Computer Science as a career?” Additionally,77% answered either 4 or 5 in response to the question “Do you plan to continue as a computerscience major?” All thirty-one respondents indicated that they liked working with others in thecourse’s projects. On one hand, there’s no doubt that computer science remains intimidating. At the beginning ofthe class, 55% believed computer science to be

Computer-based student laboratories provide a rangeof versatile tools that allow experiments to be performed and learning to be achieved moreefficiently than in a laboratory limited to the use of traditional instrumentation. The onlinelaboratory presented in this paper allows the students to explore the air flow patterns aroundvarious objects, and the associated virtual laboratory expands the scope of the remoteexperiments. In the future, we plan to extend the

non-school-based teams had increased, however more must be doneto ensure that representation at the state tournament accurately reflects the balance of types ofteams participating in the program. Our plan for 2008 is to implement a policy that assigns an official “power rating” to each team, based on the type of team it is, the time it has available to practice, and it’s previous history andsuccess as a FLL team. The qualifying tournaments in the Atlanta area will then pit teams withsimilar power ratings against each other, with each tournament sending a proportional number ofteams to the state tournament. Outside of the metro Atlanta area, teams will be assigned totournaments geographically, to minimize travel time. This is our “NCAA

in 20039. Thiscourse involves a “roving laboratory” for undergraduate students. Experiments in the rovinglaboratory are to be carried out in class, in two different on-campus facilities, and in the field.Experiments are used by the instructor to motivate each and every theoretical discussion in class,to teach students how to plan, conduct and interpret their own experiments, and to exposestudents to important emerging areas of experimental mechanics. Students are then required todesign and implement a vibration test. The original offering of this course only had 14 students, and it is not clear if this approach is scalable to larger classes. It is clear that experimental vibration analysis is an important tool for identifying dynamicproperties

In onlineenvironments these two factors often require more planning and active engagement. Theinstructor will also need to master in a relatively short time the skills associated with theeffective use of online instructional tools to address these challenges. From a synergic perspective, online instructional tools facilitate communication process withlarge groups of students and also engage more students in informal activities such as reviewsessions and office hours4 . The fact that lessons learned during those ad-hoc experiments are seldom documented and calibrated with benchmarks gives rise to a trustworthy issue, i.e., different FEM software gives different results of simulations for the same mesh design and mathematical model of a specific physical

? "I feel that this class project was very rewarding and I enjoyed seeing the subsystem components coming together to form a complete system. The project walked us through a complete system which emulated concepts that I will need in the senior design process, and in addition to the material I learned about RF systems the course provided a review of earlier coursework. I feel that I am well prepared to start senior design next year. I also would have liked to learn about Microsoft Project beyond the simple Gantt chart because I plan to use project management software for senior design
