This work is aqualitative study of how a design-oriented methodology can help improve students’ success. Inorder to validate our thesis we plan to systematically analyze student’s grades. Based on ourcurrent data, we noticed a 3.37% improvement in the mean student grade over the last twoacademic years. The data collected is presented in figures 1 and 2. Forexample, a module could be centered on building a toothpick bridge. At the beginning of theunit students could be given a set of design criteria for a bridge they must construct. The criteriacan include weight and size constraints, material constraints, how much load it must handle, orany number of other requirements. As students plan their solution, different bridge designs canbe introduced such as suspension bridges, truss bridges, or arch bridges. Case studies of thedesigns of famous bridges can be used. This partnership allowed training to takeplace with the same teachers who were credentialed to teach the dual-credit coursework of thedeveloped pathway, even if they were not planning on teaching the Ivy Tech curriculum in theirclassrooms. Following the instructional requirements of Conexus, the training focused on thecertification body of knowledge for the MSSC CLT exam, which is also embedded in the dualcredit course developed for the Ivy Tech-Purdue Supply Chain Management Technologypathway. While Conexus did not want hands-on activities conducted during this workshop, theresearchers of
renewable energy with other energy subjects and other STEM disciplines wasanother recurring theme in participant comments. The department resides within anurban, nonresidential campus with a student enrollment population of 30,690 for the fall of 2014.(Indiana University, 2014) Currently the program’s enrollment consists of 135 students.The program is accredited by ABET. It does not utilize proprietary assessment software nor isthere dedicated assessment staff. The program’s accreditation plan was developed exclusivelyby its full time faculty with copious support by experienced faculty residing within thedepartment and by the dean’s
