were ‘not sure’ what an engineer does, and less than one-third couldcorrectly describe engineering. Examples of correct descriptions are ‘engineers use math andscience to make calculations needed to design, build, repair…’ and ‘an engineer is the ‘brain’behind most of the technology out there today, they design, manufacture and test’. Examples ofincorrect descriptions are that an engineer ‘works with computers and stuff’ and ‘fixes things’.Overall, there was no significant difference in knowledge about engineering between the malestudents (33%) and their female classmates (29%).
