to the already low number of PhDsawarded in computing due, in part, to high attrition, few of these degrees are awarded to studentsfrom URGs. The 2020 Taulbee survey found that only 21.7% of the PhDs awarded in computingby the surveyed institutions were earned by students who identified as women, and 13.4% of themby domestic students who did not identify as White [5]. Part of this disparity in doctoral degreeattainment between majority and underrepresented groups may be due to the challenges studentsfrom URGs continue to face in higher education.
