However, in the College ofEngineering at Cornell University, business and engineering also intersect in a more ubiquitousmanner, including traditional coursework and co-curricular initiatives. Examples of this includeprojects where there are corporate partners, business and leadership skill development in studentproject teams, market and consumer aspects of design courses, and training focused onorganizational communication. To address these real-world applications of engineering, and theexternal factors impacting theoretical approaches, students need to research companies, industries, business environments, organizational behavior, and sources of financing. This has prompted the Engineering Library

Oneexample is the well-known ADDIE instructional model. ADDIE is an acronym for Analyze,Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate, all of which are steps within the learningdevelopment process. ADDIE has a proven record of accomplishment in both in-person andvirtual education. This popular teaching method has been used in numerous educational settings, from primary schools to colleges, and is taught to students in education programs across thecontinent. However, critics of

Each paper that matched the inclusion criteria was examined andinformation was extracted relating to authorship, journal published in, research design, method, and analysis, as well as research question and instrument (when relevant). Simple statisticalanalysis will be conducted to derive patterns around research papers in engineering librarianshipduring this 5-year period. prepare students better for the norms of academia, for the process of researchpublication, and for critical review of scholarship. Research librarians with both engineering and scholarly communication expertise areuniquely situated to fill in the gaps of the research lifecycle. Scholarly communication skills arevital for high-impact research writing – understanding and critically evaluating scientometrics, reviewing conferences and journals, evaluating and reviewing literature, navigating authorship, planning for data management, understanding various paper types, interpreting disciplinarynorms, and more. In 2022, the primary author designed and proposed the semester-long first-year graduatecourse “Research Lifecycle and Publication in

college campuses, within their academic departments, and in degree programs [3], [4], [5],[6]. Exclusion and bias are particularly prevalent in science, technology, engineering, andmathematics (STEM) fields, where research has found that people with dominant identities (i.e.,male, non-disabled, white, heterosexual, cisgender) disproportionally benefit from societalsupport and encouragement, financial rewards, and preferential access to educational, research, and professional opportunities [7]. In a technologically-oriented global economy, STEM fieldsoffer a growing number of employment opportunities that could be beneficial for a more diverseworkforce, who, in turn, would enrich and enhance these disciplines with their knowledge, perspectives

Listening First research strategy was to make surestudents within the SoE felt listened to, valued, and included in the process. Meeting the primarygoal could help develop reciprocal connections between the library and SoE, and could promotea sense of partnership between the two. Secondary and tertiary goals for the Listening Firststrategy include a deeper understanding of the research and publishing behaviors of students, aswell as identifying student support gaps. Understanding the research behaviors of students wouldinform programming and service needs, influence instruction, and provide a much-neededbaseline for the information literacy habits of our engineering students at our institution. Areaswhere students felt unsupported could be anything

introductoryengineering courses have hands-on projects in their syllabi, and we intend to increase studentaccessibility to these resources for their projects. It is hoped that this will also increase studentknowledge of and participation in programs such as Supplemental Instruction, as there areseveral courses required for engineering students (chemistry, physics, mathematics andengineering mechanics) that have higher rates of grades of D, F or W (most of our coursesrequire C or better to prove a student has understood prerequisite material) and impactengineering student persistence, retention and graduation rates. Another benefit of this newmodel is that by hosting senior design and capstone design teams in the STEAM incubators,first-year students who explore

A2023 AAC&U survey of 1,010 executives and hiring managers reported that 70% of respondentsviewed “locating and evaluating information from a variety of sources” as a very important skillfor new hires, but only 54% of respondents reported that students are well-prepared with thisskill [8].To help address student IL skill gaps, engineering librarians have long integrated instruction intocourses to support senior capstone projects and other assignments, which has shown to improvethe quality of students' final projects and increase the number of references cited [9], [10].However, often academic IL instruction is highly focused on supporting the specific courseassignments

. Information access shouldnot be the reason for a student to leave the field or downgrade their engineering degree. From the open-ended responses to questions 4 and 11, it became clear that students areencountering frustrations with courses that require students to purchase a textbook access code inorder to access online quizzes or other required modules managed through the publisher website. While the topic of textbook access codes was not addressed within this survey, the fact that itsurfaced naturally is noteworthy. The use of these access codes adds an additional “pay-to-play”layer to an already expensive educational environment. The use of these codes mean somestudents may be excluded from coursework due to cost-barriers, negatively impacting

Additionally, theIndigenous Peoples even though they are oral cultures, they also have what Western Europeanculture calls “trade secrets” or proprietary information. This proprietary knowledge is onlyshared with those designated within the Tribe to know the information. Part of the challengefacing all storage and retrieval sources is to have a way to index proprietary information withpublic terms to make it discoverable and available to those allowed to know.Currently, with efforts to revive ancient knowledge, it is helpful to find what we know has beenwritten about the specific engineering projects of the past.
