Both classes are related to qualitymanagement and lean six-sigma principles. Few teaching tools used in the proposed frameworkinclude interactive lecture notes, videos, daily quizzes, application oriented HW assignment,article review, and real-world case analysis. applications. This paper presents a new method to replace traditional homeworkwith advanced active learning and lecturing in class. “Thermodynamics” was chosen as thesubject of the case study. The traditional homework was not wholly removed but was presentedas “optional.” Meanwhile, a set of experiments and mini-projects was designed throughout thesemester to replace the weight percentage of the homework. Activities included designingexperiments, major-specified projects (biomechanical, civil engineering, mechanicalengineering, etc.), and solving real-world problems that were defined by involving cleantech andenergy startup companies.
