hegde@pitt.eduABSTRACTThis paper presents the development and teaching of a university level course for college seniors andgraduate students on Frugal Engineering and Value Analysis. We developed and offered the course toboth business and engineering students. Here, we present the need for teaching frugal engineering in anengineering curriculum. Value Methodology or Value Engineering, along with Quality Engineering, arekey components of frugal engineering. “Wicked” problems and their challenges are also presented inthis course, along with wicked problem-solving strategies. While the concepts behind Value Engineeringwere developed in the 1940s and frequently applied in industrial, manufacturing, construction, anddefense projects, they are rarely

This problem creates the necessity of improving the efficiency of theoretical –practical content delivery strategies and techniques in the academic formation such that studentscan be prepared for successful implementation of Lean Six Sigma projects. This evidence-basedpaper explores the implementation of Guided Learning Sequences, a content delivery techniquethat combines instruction, practice, and application into real-life inspired problems, to developdata analysis competencies related to the statistical

When compared to more passive learning methods,experiment-centric pedagogy has been demonstrated to boost motivation, peer-learning, andretention [13]. Following a study on learners' experiences after exploration and experimentation,Connor et al. [14] emphasized that project-based pedagogy frequently contains implicit biasesthat limit learning, either in terms of the procedures followed or the expected results. This wouldresult in predictable outcomes that do not promote divergent thinking and creativity [14]. Thisleads to the authors providing evidence that

Introduction and literature reviewLike any scientific study, a simulation project involves a defined sequence of steps. The processbegins with establishing a clear problem statement and study goals, leading to actionablerecommendations to support decision-making. Crucially, after model development, simulationstudies require debugging, verification, and validation. However, some students struggle todistinguish between these terms.Debugging entails meticulously examining a model for errors. This encompasses syntax issues aswell as semantic or logical errors that can lead to misleading output. Fortunately

As a result, the Industrial Engineering (IE)department adopted the ECP idea with a focus on implementing home-based hands-on activitiesfor two courses. Learning a specific idea can start at any point, but the ECP concept starts withthe presentation of an experiment to teach the students a theory. This greatly improves thestudent's ability to retain the taught theoretical topic. The ECP concept is based on the MobileStudio project designed by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to boost students' interest andsuccess in electrical engineering [3]. Since then, many colleges, including 13 HBCUs in the USA[4], have adopted it as a
