Using this prior research as a framework, this article describes an effort to develop culturally relevant software designed to support the scientific learning of students at a secondary school in St. Denis, Uganda, Africa. The secondary education system at St. Denis is based on a traditional, lecture format. Teachers within this system seek to transfer their knowledge to students by writing on the blackboard while their students take scrupulous notes.
