For example, in Guatemala students were installingbiosand filters in people’s homes and needed to explain to the family how to use it and why itwould be beneficial to them. Students had to gauge which aspects of this technology the familiesunderstood, and how to explain the parts they did not. This task was complex because they wereworking across language barriers, cultural barriers, and technical levels.
