application of just-in-time-learning and design-integrated instruction in a second course on Applied Thermodynamics[17], theauthors found this approach to reinforce concepts and that their objectives were successfully met,despite a handful of students’ comments citing an overwhelming workload. In a capstone designcourse in environmental engineering focusing on simulation and a PBL design project, the authorsreported that students developed a much deeper understanding of course material, suggesting thatthe simulation activities outperformed their expectations.[18] At MIT, PBL has been implemented through a curriculum change based on the real-worldengineering context of a product's complete life cycle.
