]. In STEM fields, women face professional barriers in pursuing careers [5]–[7]. When itcomes to entrepreneurship in STEM, Roach et al. [8] estimate that male Ph.D. students in STEMfields are four times more likely than female students to have intentions to enter the workforce ascompany founders. Low female participation rates in STEM-based entrepreneurship pose several problems:First, to the extent that individuals form companies that solve problems they face or that arebased on their own experiences, the existing population of STEM-based firms is less likely tomeet the needs of women [9], [10]. The combination of studying both Business and Engineering disciplines has introduced me to a wide variety of careers in which both leadership and problem-solving skills will be necessary. I have been exposed to the most important aspects of both the business and engineering disciplines, which is extremely beneficial in a world where technology is becoming increasingly dominate.Multidisciplinary teaming can be challenging; however, the response has been positive amongstthe engineering students with the VIP and EPICS Programs. One of the engineering leaders inan EPICS team appreciated students who had expertise and
discoveries and development of useful technologies. Study-abroad providesexperiential learning in the immersive global context for the student, and thus imbues deeperunderstanding of EM applications. This global experience is increasingly perceived as essentialin career advancement [8] due to STEM field shortages and supply chain complexities whichdrive global interdependence to deliver technical projects.The United States Military Academy at West Point’s Engineering Management Program haswitnessed a growth in semester abroad requests in recent years. Global network connectivity hascertainly assisted student request increases due to accessible video-conferencing platformswhereas earlier efforts relied on email and phone calls. In the 2010/2011
