GUIDING STUDENTS IN THEIR HANDS-ON WORKAs mentioned in previous section, hands-on work is an integral part of both college educationand professional training. Although hands-on work can be incorporated into teaching,laboratories remain the predominant method for practical learning [2] . Consequently, mostengineering courses are delivered through lectures supplemented by lab sections. The need for militarydevelopment and space exploration during the Cold War era fueled a marked shift in the natureof engineering degrees with a heavy engineering science component [1], [2].
