Harden’s curriculum map different biological topics such as hypertension are nested inside amore general topic such as cardiovascular systems 14 .Graph-based methods and hierarchies quickly provide an overview of the curriculum but theydon’t often consider the paths that students take through the curriculum (as measured by studentlearning data) or the temporal aspects such as when in their academic careers students are takingeach course. Including student data is important because the intended curriculum is not alwaysfollowed by students as prescribed. In our review we found two examples that consider thecurriculum temporally.
