Conducting such intensive training was necessary to ensure that our graduate students are able to use modern software and hardware tools that are used by professional system-level designers. Brief descriptions of each of the hardware and software tools used are available in sections five and six of this paper.3. Real-time video processing issues: Students were directed to research issues related to the real-time implementation of a hardware/software video processing system. These issues include: a) the proper and efficient division of

At the beginning of class the professor answered any questions that the studentshad and worked through the first homework problem. This took approximately five minutes.Students then worked in groups of two or three to complete the homework set (including the firsthomework problem) using the Mastering Engineering online homework system for the majorityof the 90 minute class while the professor answered questions and explained concepts as needed.Students were given three chances to obtain the

also share their plan for the future research.IntroductionThe primary goal of engineering programs is to prepare the engineering students for theirprofessional careers in the global setting 1. Ideally, the educators should teach in a well-managed,student-centered environment with reasonably structured framework. They should stressfundamental knowledge, equip the students with solid skills and expose them to cutting-edgetechnologies 2. It has been found that obtaining practical knowledge from college is morebeneficial to the students’ professional career than mastering any new technology 3. An effectivelearning environment should help the students enhance their ability to solve practical problems 2.Globalization of the engineering enterprise

article is to emphasize the need to establish a strong first impression in theclassroom for students’ successful learning experience and their retention in the curriculum.Teaching is an art that every instructor should master in order to help students learn efficientlyand apply that knowledge in real world applications. Undergraduate students are veryenthusiastic and eager to learn new concepts in a well-structured learning environment. In thispaper, the authors investigate a freshman course of “Introduction to Metals and Metallurgy” as abaseline model in order to identify the need for making the connection with students on day oneand providing guidelines to new engineering educators to successfully implement teachingpractices that include use of

structural-functionalist nature of this learning modelfacilitates the goal of educational institutions to train students to perform in an existing socialorder. “Success means mastering what people other than the student deem important andperforming the mastered material in schools and society as they are currently structured” (439).Deep relational encounters that permanently alter one’s world view happen in spite of rather thanbecause of this pedagogical design. The fact that “evidence-based” thinking has been coupled with “learner-centered” or “activelearning” initiatives -- even used to assess their effectiveness -- is anathema to the goals oflearner-centered education. This contradiction suggests the engineering education communitymight attend

Since these focused practices can fully utilizestudents’ working memory without causing cognitive overload, students will be able to acquirespecific skills within a short period of time and stay motivated to practice and master more complexskills.Although DP is mainly investigated on its effectiveness of expertise acquisition, we have seen itssuccessful application on beginners as well. In this paper we will share how we follow theguidelines from CLT to design DP activities in the undergraduate dynamics course to enhancestudents’ learning experience and improve their problem solving skills. Second, the wide availability of high gatecount FPGAs, which enables students to create amazingly complex designs involving datapathcomponents such as adders and counters, requires the teaching of many more complex componentsin a one semester course. This two-fold increase in complexity requires a redesign of the traditionalintroductory digital design laboratory to enable students to create complex designs using a rela-tively simple design methodology. Therefore, this paper proposes the use of a minimal subset of an HDL (Verilog, in this case) com-plemented by judicious use of schematic capture and its

Then there are 3 stages of higher education according to the Bologna process:bachelor, master, degree. Each transition is a serious challenge for young persons. Why some ofthem follow to the next level better than others? The problem of young people’s adaptationduring the transition from high to higher technical education is analyzed in this article. Wedescribe a new vision of the term “readiness” as a characteristic for successful transition fromone educational level to another.Transition of young persons from high school to university usually involves hard changes forthem. Students who completed the course via either of the distance methods(audiographics or online) mastered the content as well as or better than students in the face-to-face section of the course.Though not the primary focus of this study, the author did find non-completion rates in distanceeducation courses to be higher than in the face-to-face course. The withdrawal rates for theaudiographics course were particularly high, and student’s low satisfaction scores may have beena factor. The percentage of students completing the online class varied by semester, and thesmall numbers in both classes do not generate a
