the protocol of the sensor array instrumentation. As a team, they helped their professor successfully continue the hunt to answer the query ofwhether a Mach Effect (inertial reaction force) is actually detectable. Due partly to their effortsthe science around this instrument is now quite robust and this novel device provides consistent, replicable and predictable results. During the summer research, the students got to apply much oftheir theoretical electrical engineering training to a real-world application in sensor arrays andinstrumentation. Background and MotivationThe roles that our undergraduate engineers played in this research during the summer of 2018was written up in a recent (2019) ASEE Zone 1 conference publication. will alleviate some major issues that have already been identified asfollows: some of current trainers use power systems of 120 volts alternating current which can bevery dangerous [1]. Parallax error and soft limitation can be seen as obtained by measurement.Perhaps, the most crippling disadvantage of the current equipment is the low number of usablePLCs.By using the new trainers, visualization of topics is possible which helps students to betterunderstand the topics. The trainers also give digital input and output and analog input and output. It is controlled manually by using motors and automatically by using sensors.Problem StatementThe main problems associated with PLCs can be broken down into the following list: • Getting new hardware

We noted high student motivation on those Labs and projects, as well aspositive feedback from students.Robotics is an interdisciplinary field requiring knowledge of software, electronics, controlsystems, actuators and sensors. After reviewing course materials from courses on-line and number of introductory books, wedetermined that an introductory course for Electronic

the Kinect in this approach were studied. Then, a technique for thesimultaneous tracking and reconstruction (STAR) of objects was developed and tested. Thistechnique was inspired by the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) approach, and itwas implemented using the Kinect and an iRobot Create platform. The prototype implementationshows that this STAR technique is feasible and suitable to be used in educational roboticslaboratories. This technique also has multiple advantages compared to traditional educationallaboratories, such as lower cost, more straightforward setup and less required preparation work bythe laboratory instructor.1. In Section IV we present post survey results collectedfrom the students and discuss potential improvements to be implemented in subsequent versionsof the platform. Finally, we present concluding remarks in Section V.II. Platform DesignIn an effort to create a low-cost experimental platform that could be used for multipleengineering courses, we decided to use recycled 0.25 inch plywood to create a reconfigurablebase chassis. The base chassis was designed by a team of 4 members including, 2 students (1undergraduate and 1 Ph.D. student), 1 research associate, and 1 teaching faculty. As part of the design constraints the platform

The rationale is threefold: (1) the natureof our hands-on teaching philosophy, (2) the advent and relevance of SMRs and need of trainedworkforce, and (3) the ongoing need of engineering programs to be submerged in active interactionswith local industry as well as provide our engineering students with real-world experience.Introduction According to the Virginia Nuclear Energy

The toy was asmall stuffed likeness of an animated movie character. Embedded in the toy was a batterypowered module which played a short clip of the character’s voice when the toy was subjected torough handling. Disassembly of the module revealed a simple spring trigger mechanism to sensethe motion of the toy and cause it to activate the voice circuit when sufficient impact accelerationoccurred.Hands-on experience is a key part of effective undergraduate engineering education [1], [2].Coupling hands-on experience with team project-based learning further benefits

Research shows that insufficient training, time, andincentives are among the most commonly cited barriers for faculty effectiveness [2]. Manyfaculty have indicated that in terms of training they feel not well equipped and prepared to meetthe challenges that comes along in teaching STEM. Furthermore, research also suggest that theteachers

IntroductionRecently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has received a great attention and widelyadopted and popularly used in many applications such as agriculture, forest industry, hospital, toll way, manufacturing industry, etc. The advantages of RFID usage in those applications aremainly tracking and real-time monitoring [1-3]. The traditional method used in industry wasbarcode, which has several disadvantages such as line of sight reading, limited data storage, andnon-programmability [4]. Instead, RFID uses a tag that communicates with reader using neardistance wireless communication. In addition, it can store the data that can be read by RFIDreader through its antenna. to the principles ofoperation and electrical behavior of a number of electronic devices (principally the p-n junctiondiode, the MOSFET, and the BJT). An understanding of the I-V characteristics of these devicesis indispensable to understanding their use in circuits exploiting them as either linear or nonlineardevices. While simulation is valuable, it is arguably not a replacement of the demonstration ofthe I-V characteristics of real devices. A brief survey of ASEE literature on educational use ofcurve tracers is summarized below.Shwehdi et al [1] described a senior design project to build an instrument for measurement of thecurrent gain of NPN BJTs. This was not a curve tracer per se.Beams [2] described curve tracers that used an ad hoc

These systems often run 24/7 to control and monitor critical industrialand infrastructure processes. The demand to integrate them with the internet has opened them upfor cyber-attacks. The need for skilled expertise in defending these critical assets in the studentworld is high [1-3].
