We hope that by offering multilingual opportunities toaccess complex engineering systems through play, students will see ways that they can affecttheir local community issues and exhibit changed mindsets about who can call themselves anengineer.Supplementary MaterialsThe public version of the English/Spanish prototype of Next Stop! is available at this link:https://sites.tufts.edu/marvez/2022/12/13/next-stop-teaching-transit-engineering-through-board-games/Sources[1] Q. strategy (guessing and checking or mental math) is being used by thestudent. A low ratio would imply guessing at work while high ratio would indicate otherwise. SeeSection 3 and Figure 4 for representative sample plots for the strategies. The algorithm picks twovectors a and b randomly, such that, a =< n, m > and b =< p, q >. Then the other two vectors cand d are chosen to be linearly dependent on them, c = ka and d = jb. Based on these the goalposition is fixed as xc + yd which is the ideal solution to the given puzzle. However, xka + yd,xc + ylb, and xka + ylb are other possible solutions. Apart from the vectors chosen by the player, the scalars also affect the output, and therefore, sign(x), sign(y), sign(xk), sign(yj) play

It requires students’ deep engagement and comprehensive skills for problemsolving, design of mechanical systems and components that need to integrate all the knowledgestudents have assimilated through various courses in their major for professional success. ProjBLpedagogy has been adopted and implemented in ME425. This engaged pedagogy aims to helpstudents enhance their cognitive, non-cognitive and critical thinking skills through engineeringdesign tasks. The online section of ME425 has implemented similar components as CS102.CMG250 has been identified as one

Once at the ‘WTP,’ students met the ‘Operator’ who claimed the previousunits’ response to the failing WTP was to provide a new technology, but left no direction as towhat it is or how to operate it. Students solved a pictograph of ‘reverse osmosis’ (RO) (Figure 1)which led them to a bench-scale RO unit. Lacking engineering drawings of the RO system, students were asked to draw a process flow diagram. The final question directed students todetermine where the inputs and outputs to the system from their diagram, and solve a wordscramble (C T U A A I Q LATS E N A R T L C O E) to identify the problem. Theenvironmental problem was RO reject brine discharge into the environment and aquatic salttolerance. Using the NSPE

hadsufficient time in their schedule to attend and allow interaction with a number of differentattendees. These reasons were still meaningful for a virtual design show and consequently theduration was set for 2 hours. To keep things simple and ensure each team has a meaningfulamount of time to present their work, the 26 teams were split into two sessions. This limited thepresentation time for each team to a little less than 10 minutes. Given the limited time and theneed to minimize technical difficulties, the design show was structured as two concurrent Zoomsessions consisting of roughly 4-minute pre-recorded team videos followed by four minutes oflive Q&A. Each team prepared their video which was subsequently streamed by the instructorduring the

= “The mass of a spring-mass system, with m = “&M&” kg and k = “&k&” kN/m, vibrates on a horizontal surface under a harmonic force of magnitude “&F&” and a frequency of “&freq&” Hz. Find the resulting amplitude of steady state vibration. Assume the coefficient of friction between the mass and the horizontal surface as “&ukThe ‘&’ in the formula concatenates the strings with the values from the named cells. Cell C2has the answer calculated from the values in the other cells and D2 has 0.01*C2, the acceptabletolerance for the problem.Figure 2 shows the format of a spreadsheet to generate the options. Formulas in columns O, P, Q,R, and S created the possible patterns

students followed the same engineering design process steps and were assigned the samedesign tasks. Throughout the COIL activity, the students shared information on different typesof rainwater collection and treatment systems, compared regulations for rainwater harvesting inboth countries and rain patterns in different geographical areas, as well as their designs throughshared Google Documents folders. The final deliverable was a presentation on their final systemdesign.In-class discussions took place every week, with all the students and instructors in a Zoommeeting room. The sessions were divided into 5 sections: a brief introduction to the week's topic(2 minutes), instructions for the week’s discussions (1 minute), a brief Q&A session (2

grouppresentation to the high school digital divide technology team. The final externship session included a discussion about career exploration and next steps toenhance their professional portfolio with the externship experience. Q&A with students led toadvising them in practical areas such as setting up LinkedIn profiles, interviewing skills, etc.Based on extern engagement in these discussions, a decision was made to explicitly includemore career exploration and other career services in the next round of externships.Prior to the externships taking place, CIT students were asked to complete a survey and “rate theimportance of having an externship as part of your college experience at Phoenix College.” Ofthe 16 CIT students that completed the pre-survey

concentrate flow rate, and 20 psig – 40 psigfeed pressure. All the results shown in this section were with a running time of 15-minutes.Future projectsOne of the experiments that will be performed in the laboratory course will be comparing theresistivity data obtained from this system to industrial/commercial systems like milli-Q. Also, multiple experiments can be performed using the reverse osmosis system with the tank such asstudying the effect of the feed concentration on the performance of the reverse osmosis system. This project can be extended to study the efficiency of various reverse osmosis membranes todesalinize water and determine the optimal system design that uses less amount of energy. In thisfuture project, the student could research and
