Then the other two vectors cand d are chosen to be linearly dependent on them, c = ka and d = jb. Based on these the goalposition is fixed as xc + yd which is the ideal solution to the given puzzle. : surveys, discussions & polls in class, peer tutoring, Q&A in office hoursME425 has been identified as one of the most challenging design courses in the MechanicalEngineering major. It requires students’ deep engagement and comprehensive skills for problemsolving, design of mechanical systems and components that need to integrate all the knowledgestudents have assimilated through various courses in their major for professional success. ProjBLpedagogy has been adopted and implemented in ME425. This engaged pedagogy aims to helpstudents enhance their cognitive, non-cognitive and critical thinking skills through engineeringdesign tasks. The online section of ME425 has implemented similar components as CS102.CMG250 has been identified as one
watertreatment lab course. Once at the ‘WTP,’ students met the ‘Operator’ who claimed the previousunits’ response to the failing WTP was to provide a new technology, but left no direction as towhat it is or how to operate it. Students solved a pictograph of ‘reverse osmosis’ (RO) (Figure 1)which led them to a bench-scale RO unit. Lacking engineering drawings of the RO system, students were asked to draw a process flow diagram. The final question directed students todetermine where the inputs and outputs to the system from their diagram, and solve a wordscramble (C T U A A I Q LATS E N A R T L C O E) to identify the problem. Theenvironmental problem was RO reject brine discharge into the environment and aquatic salttolerance. Using the NSPE

hadsufficient time in their schedule to attend and allow interaction with a number of differentattendees. These reasons were still meaningful for a virtual design show and consequently theduration was set for 2 hours. To keep things simple and ensure each team has a meaningfulamount of time to present their work, the 26 teams were split into two sessions. This limited thepresentation time for each team to a little less than 10 minutes. Given the limited time and theneed to minimize technical difficulties, the design show was structured as two concurrent Zoomsessions consisting of roughly 4-minute pre-recorded team videos followed by four minutes oflive Q&A. Each team prepared their video which was subsequently streamed by the instructorduring the
