as the most important sources of informationthough at least two students commented there was not enough information and they did their ownindependent research.We also asked students to comment on what they found to be the biggest challenge(s) during thetransfer process and specifically what would have helped in overcoming those challenges. By farthe most commonly mentioned reason was being unsure which classes would transfer from 2-yearto 4-year colleges, and understanding what the transfer prerequisites were. motivate too many individuals. We need something more specific such as a parent telling their son or daughter to set their sights on getting “A”s because graduate school may depend on it. Edwin Loche wrote in 1960 that a person’s intention to work toward a goal that was specific, achievable and had feedback was a great motivator for most people.8 He felt that goals not only tell the person what has to be done but they give a good approximation of the amount of effort required. Also, as well as goal setting works, it works better when the goal is higher rather than lower so long as the goal was accepted by the student.
