through teaching their peers.Preliminary Results and Early Impact Indicators Since 2019, MSI has recorded a 300% increase in makerspace visits, growing fromroughly 1,200 to over 3,000 annual sign-ins during the calendar year of 2023. This rise in usageis notable given the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects the increasingdemand for community-driven, experiential learning opportunities. Among first-year engineeringstudents, anecdotal feedback from partnered programs consistently highlights their students’feelings of surprise, empowerment, and belonging especially among under representedpopulations within the SoE. ?Three distinct phases of a woman’s journey were examined. First, a sample of women who havealready completed an undergraduate engineering degree from a public university was studied.Secondly, women in their upper division year of their undergraduate degree program were askedto reflect on their experiences over their undergraduate career. Over time, as peopleadjusted to the situation, the negative impacts were reduced. Our findings therefore suggest a strong positive impact that frequentuse of simulation tools in MSE courses can have on students’ attitudes toward these tools in the contextof engineering work. And Q2: Which ones are cognitively complex? (star) Why? To create this study’s task diagram shown in Fig. 1, we first systematically workedthrough the answers to Q1 and sorted the data into categories. Although the words used todescribe the challenging aspects of search differed slightly among participants, the top-levelcategories reflect the common themes as analyzed by the author.
