Thus, the authors decided to reformat the procedures in a numbering, hierarchicalscheme such that each step would be followed accordingly (Figure 3). This modificationeliminated the need of having to search in multiple paragraphs for necessary information anddeciding what to implement. In addition, the revised manual specified exactly the type of table(s)needed for recording experimental data. This allowed students to include

Many teachers who teach the same courserepeatedly, reuse their same tests each semester. Certainly, this does save time, but in this ageof total and digital communication, this should be considered a certain invitation to ‘cheat’. what they showed to solve revision questions.”This is consistent with Hattie and Donoghue (2016)’s model of learning where learning strategies canvary between students, and their effectiveness can change as students move through the surface, deepand transfer phases. Thus these results imply that WEVs can serve as a launching pad for further study, leading to deeper learning, critical thinking and knowledge transfer (Hattie and Donoghue 2016). Thisbehavior could be further encouraged by recommending additional practice problems related to eachworked example, which was in fact proposed by some students when asked how the WEV conceptcould be improved. These findings support WEVs as a means of encouraging active learning. Finally, it is important
