international service projects, specifically what and howstudents learned from their experiences in these projects. Key foci of the study drew upontheories and models of experiential and social learning, identity, and intercultural competence. The students were participants in the local Engineers Without Borders chapter at the Universityof Illinois. The findings highlight what students reported learning related to: (a) the need toinvest time and effort, (b) interacting with community and team members, (c) implementingprojects, and (d) their individual development. These findings articulate the benefits to studentsof international service experiences and provide ideas for instructional methods that might fosterthis learning in other

However, since the slots were limited in each Page 22.949.5engineering department, class rank was a deciding factor for second year students to be acceptedto their preferred engineering department. For students in their third and fourth years, competition for study abroad slots depended on their class rank as well. France uses a 20-point grading scale with a passing grade of 10, and the letter grades ofA, B, C, D, E, Fx, and F. French

The questions dealt with building with Legos, programming robots, teamwork, applying the EDP to solve robotics problems, sensors and their functions, and engineering andtechnology. Part II involved three questions. In it the students were asked to identify specificthings they learned in the class and to rate how the class contributed to their understanding ofproblem solving. Part III dealt with three types of questions: (a) Students’ understanding ofconcepts like engineering, technology, and the engineering design process; (b) Students’ interestin engineering as field of study or career and their view of the steps necessary to

Assessment of student performance (grade distributions, etc.)It appears that the technical evaluation of the two Topics in Fluid Mechanics (MENG 494)courses was quite similar. For the semester-long course taught at the home institution, the gradedistribution consisted of 4 As, 3 Bs, and 1 C with an average GPA of 3.4. For the CIE course, 3As and 1 B were given with an average GPA of 3.7. The GPAs are relatively high in bothcourses. There are two main reasons for this: first, both courses were senior electives and onlystudents with a strong interest in the topic enrolled in the course. Second, due to the smallstudent numbers in both
