Other locations in Asia,Africa, New Zealand and Australia were expanded throughout reciprocal exchange agreementsfor semester stays and internships/service programs in those locations were identified as well.Figure B shows the participation of students divided in three regions: the Americas, Europe andAfrica/Asia/Australia/Pacific and the Middle East. Europe is still the favorite location for studyabroad, but the WCOE has grown participation in Central and South America by 300% from2013-2016 and a 1000% growth is expected from 2013-2017. The latter is a response to the factthat 87% of the internships offered abroad in 2017 are in

The evaluation was conducted based on theinstructor’s subjective observations, against the benchmark of the third-year engineeringstudents in another global course [9]. Firstly, most of the students had demonstrated strongcommunication skills. In particular, since there is no

At the start, the paper provides an overview of relevant benchmarks ofengineering education in the Region. Then, relates author’s preliminary findings onteaching/learning practices in engineering colleges of the Region, sheds light on the pros andcons of the lecture format, and examines the literature on meanings and substance ofdifferent active learning protocols, focusing on cooperative engagement strategies. Thepaper, also, sheds light on: theoretical roots, research support, current practices, andsuggestions for redesigning classes, if need be, to stimulate

with. The purpose here is to offer a new way tothink about the development of the professional engineering educator. In this respect, the paper focuses on:(i) the cognitive processes that faculty would follow as theygrow and learn more about teaching and learning,(ii) the discipline-basedindustrial/practical experience they need to acquire in their locale to add to theirrepertoire as “practitioners” of engineering, and (iii) the institutional initiatives, including administrative support, encouragement, and resources. What is needed is tocreate a change in culture within the institution, the department or college, to generatea comprehensive and integrated set of components: clearly articulated expectations, areward system for good teaching
