Institute ofTechnology (MIT), announced what many in the U.S. had suspected: the U.S. economy was in arecession. The U.S.’s largest bank, Bank of America, promptly announced a whopping loss ofsome 35,000 jobs over the next three years after its takeover of Merrill Lynch (Business CycleDating, nber.org/cycles/dec2008.html). The New Year certainly did not bring any renewed economic optimism. In the U.S., theunemployment rate increased to 7.2%, with more unemployed workers in 2007 than in any otheryear since the end of World War II (Business Cycle Dating, nber.org/cycles/dec2008.html). Infact, the International Monetary Fund reported that the economic growth was set to fall to a mere0.5% in 2008, which represented its lowest rate ever, and the

In 2021, behavioral engagement scores were approximately 10 percentagepoints higher than those scores in 2022; this higher score in version 2 of the IDEAL framework was mainlythe result of students’ trying multiple different combinations of the keywords to unlock

ConceptTo create the feeling of the instructor actually being in the distant classroom, the authorsenvisioned a full size projection of everything that was occurring at the front of thecontiguous classroom. The goal was to capture the instructor as he moved around the front ofthe room, everything being written on the whiteboard, and any content that was beingconveyed via the contiguous classroom projector, which would include the ELMO, thecomputer, or a video device. The trick was in determining the proper camera placement sothat when the instructor’s image was broadcast in the remote classroom he would appear tobe looking directly at the student(s) to whom he was speaking, as opposed to being a floatingtorso speaking vacuously to a distant room

In terms of supporting the directassessment plan, we require our course directors to develop these graded events with an eye not onlytoward assessing the course objectives but assessing the program outcome(s) with which their courseobjectives align. In doing so, they are able to use the performance criteria and related scoring rubrics foreach of the program outcomes as a means for developing their course graded events. As part of the process of developing their graded events, course directors are required to document thealignment of the content in the graded event (down to individual
