presented on student profiles, graduationrate, graduate placement, and application-oriented industry projects. Furthermore, the comingchallenges of maintaining program quality with high enrollment, as well as completion rates, arealso discussed in this paper.Introduction Purdue University Calumet (PUC) started its Master of Science in Technology degreeprogram in 2008. The program has experienced rapid enrollment growth, as well as resourceconstraints, and by 2011 had the third largest enrollment in the nation. Since the inception, theprogram has produced more than a hundred graduates. The success of this program may beattributed to the large demand for an interdisciplinary program in the region, the interdisciplinarynature of the program

His research includes the study of thinking processes, teaching methods, and activities that improve technological problem-solving performance and creativity. He has expertise in developing technology education curriculum that integrates science, technology, engineering and mathe- matics (STEM) concepts. Currently, Dr. DeLuca’s research includes projects to develop curricula to teach STEM concepts associated with renewable energy technologies by providing a living laboratory of perfor- mance data from numerous renewable energy systems. students’ ability to create solid models when givenan assembly drawing and their spatial visualization ability. Students were administered thePSVT:R and the MCT and were then given an assembly drawing and asked to model as many ofthe seven parts as possible during a 110 minute class period. The parts in the assembly ranged incomplexity from a ball to a valve body. Students were given a ruler to measure parts on the B-size drawing and determine sizes of features based on the given scale (2:1). Relationships wereexamined between the PSVT:R, MCT, modeling activity, final project and the final exam. Thispaper will present the results of this study and discuss implications for future research.IntroductionWith the reduced amount of instructional time

state to mandate the use of engineering in K-12 curricula. Morerecently, the NGSS (Next generation Science Standards) draft and Common Core standards also embracethe engineering-based pedagogy. Typically, the use of engineering in high school teaching centers aroundusing the engineering design process in the classroom. The authors have observed over a three-yearfunded research project that biology and chemistry are the hardest STEM subjects to implement theengineering approach, unlike other disciplines such as physics, math, and engineering subjects. Thispaper describes two case studies of two teachers, one teaches zoology and the other teaches biology. Thepaper outlines each case study, the teacher implementation, classroom results by students

monitor daily electricity consumption has becomeincreasingly important with the ever growing demands for energy. Monitoring and quantifyingpower consumption enables engineers to notice problems with systems while in operation, andalso better plan future systems from the data gathered. As a result, power quality (PQ)measurement concepts are evolving from instantaneous metering to continuous monitoring andrecent developments in measurement technology make PQ monitoring systems more powerful. This equates to the construction and utilization of more flexible, compact and intelligent PQsystems. The goal of this project was to design, construct and test a monitoring system that is cost-effective, reliable and easily deployable in any environment. Two design and problem-solving instructional approaches were explored in this study: the DEAL method(Define/Explore/Anticipate/Look back) and the choice-based approach, a nonlinear, student-driven method. Creative outcomes resulting from student projects developed under DEAL andchoice-based conditions were measured and compared in this study involving 132 middle schoolstudents. Seventy-two student projects were developed using video game design software, thirty-six for each instructional method. They were completed with students opting to work alone or inpairs. This community has twice been the destinationof ISC students during summer trips. Although student interest in the program has been highbecause of its social, adventure and altruistic components, undertaking it as a university entityrequires justification from a student development standpoint. There are many venues throughwhich young travelers might make overseas excursions and engage in community service, however, students participating through a university would be expected to develop knowledgeand skills in the

Groups of five to six students designed a building on a local site.Students organized their teams based on interest in a particular branch of civil engineering, allowing individual students to focus their efforts on a particular subject. Based on feedbackfrom faculty, practicing engineers, and students, several changes were implemented prior to thefall 2012 semester. These changes included making the group size smaller, modifying the gradedsubmissions, and changing the project location. Most significantly, the

plan is presented forintegrating teamwork development into an engineering program to prepare graduates forsubsequent development of high performing teams in the professional workplace. A case isdiscussed to illustrate how team development is achieved in a project-based curriculum setting.IntroductionThe great engineering challenges of the twenty-first century are complex and multidisciplinary innature [1]. Engineers engaged in addressing problems of societal concern that have economicimpact will necessarily be members of multidisciplinary teams that bring diverse expertise andperspectives to the problem solving process. In general, a team is “a small number of people withcomplementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, set of
