accumulated knowledge may not favor just superposing theadditional knowledge to previous acquired knowledge. Furthermore, just adding security onexciting embedded systems is almost impossible. Therefore, there is a need for structural designof curriculum, which focuses security concepts on embedded systems design. This curriculum recognizes several challenges for effective undergraduate education of securityconcepts in Embedded Systems. These challenges include laboratory existing tools, classroom, and laboratory activities, and teaching large numbers of students from diverse backgrounds. Infact, we, like many embedded systems instructors, have noticed an increase in students’ interest inembedded systems design from various disciplines, especially

necessity, engineers must engage in learning throughout theircareer. Figure 5: Survey Response Frequency on Current Laboratory Learning Outcomes Figure 6: Survey Response Frequency on Past Positive Laboratory Learning OutcomesThe use of Kolb’s cycle in undergraduate engineering has been found to accomplish this mission[20]. Students in a mechanics course undertook a laboratory intended to teach how to derive amaterial’s yield strength. The students were given a combined torsion and bending apparatus andasked to derive equations for torque and moment. After graphing how these variables changedwith the deflection of the experimental apparatus, students measured the deflection of a sampleunder varying loading conditions. They then were

There has never been a period when labswere not viewed as essential to the VMI civil engineering program.Educational theory has supported the use of laboratories as effective teaching techniques [3].Laboratories promote active learning and reduce the probability that students will passivelyreceive knowledge. Images and activities are more easily remembered especially if they arevivid and appeal to the senses [4]. Most laboratories require interactions among students andprofessors and force them to actively work with the principles under investigation. Teachingassistants are also commonly

In the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Iowa, the robotics classesare designed to teach students the basics of robotics and robotic kinematics. Robotics is a verylarge interdisciplinary field with multiple job opportunities ranging from programming tomanufacturing [5]. Given the overwhelming breadth of potential material, the class of interest inthis study primarily focuses on teaching students the basics of robotics with respect to anindustrial setting. The topics covered include three-dimensional (often nonlinear) concepts likerotation matrices and forward kinematics. Since the class consists exclusively of

Safety is one competency that is highlyvalued by industries (e.g. petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, aeronautical) that hire from a varietyof engineering disciplines, but is not commonly taught across the disciplines. In this paper, wediscuss a work in progress to transfer safety pedagogy from a Chemical Engineeringundergraduate laboratory to a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate laboratory. Accordingly, during the two long semesters in 2022, we tested ourinnovative online lab teaching strategies in the laboratory sessions with the following activelearning strategies in the laboratory sessions by a) developing and implementing open-endeddesign experiences into lab work, b) establishing teamwork in online labs, c) creating an onlinelearning community and to overcome isolation, and d) incorporating pre-lab simulations and pre-lab video demonstrations. These core lab learning strategies were applied in five EE courses:Circuits, Electronics I & II, Microcomputers, and

Here, we present a comparison of the efficacy of a hands-on integratedmode of conducting physics experiments via experiment-centric pedagogy (ECP) with thetraditional laboratory mode (non-ECP) of teaching undergraduate students enrolled in theIntroduction to Physics Experiment. We conclude that these two approaches are complementaryto one another. Undergraduate students who were enrolled in the Introduction to Physicslaboratory practical (N = 30) were a case study to elicit their epistemological beliefs aboutphysics laboratory work and their views on social engagement and academic anxiety. Parametricand nonparametric comparisons of central tendency were employed to measure the meandifferences between students using the ECP mode and non
