In 2008, Cañada was awarded a Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The project, entitled Student On-ramp Leading to Engineering and Sciences (SOLES), aimed to increase the participation, retention, and success of underrepresented and educationally disadvantaged students interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields. Among the strategies developed for this project is the Summer Math Jam – a one-week intensive mathematics program designed to improve students’ preparation for college-level math courses.
