efforts to use the web-conferencing software Elluminate-Live! for deliveringtutorials, discussion classes, and even laboratory practicals to groups of students studyingengineering off-campus, including students posted overseas. Examples are given from twodisciplines. We then compare student feedback across all engineering subjects over the years2012-2013. ; project-based learning.Introduction We examine here the short-term impact of a hands-on, project-based intensive summerexperience for undergraduate students. Motivated by prior research showing that creativity isdriven largely by specific curiosity (1) and that positive project outcomes are correlated with thesense of ownership (2), we proposed and delivered a 10-week intensive (40 hours/week) summerprogram to undergraduate students majoring in STEAM. We recruited from a diverse pool ofapplicants (64 undergraduate applicants from 14 different majors). of a Statics recitation coursedesigned to improve the passing rate in a fundamental class. Learning data such as grades andself-reported information from surveys were analyzed through binomial logistical regressionanalysis to determine their ability to predict student success in Statics. The goal was to develop amethod of identifying students who would be at risk of failing the course based on historicallypredictive indicators of student learning and invite “at-risk” students to join the recitation courseearly in the semester. The impact of recitation was then determined by comparing the passingrate of at-risk students who registered for recitation with those who did not take the recitationcourse. We find that a larger portion of peer inquiry that is delivered in writtenform in asynchronous critiques is composed of generative design questions, which serve toexpand the design space, and which have been previously found to be highly valued by designteams.
