that the study of engineering is hardfor incoming students as it presents students with various academic challenges which requireshigh levels of persistence, self-discipline (Direito, Chance, & Malik, 2019). Due to thechallenges that engineering students face during their years in engineering school, engineeringeducation researchers have explored psychological factors that influence students’ achievementin engineering programs (Hsieh, Sullivan, Sass, & Guerra, 2012).Despite the great interest and attention that the grit construct has received which allowed it tocapture public imagination and influence education policy through multiple bestselling booksand articles about the importance of grit in determining an individual’s success in

Constructing a More Restorative, Inclusive, Engineering Practice: A Case Study of Engineering Social Justice in an Introductory Civil Engineering CourseINTRODUCTION Engineering doesn’t occur in a vacuum, devoid of inequalities, social hierarchy, and politics, thus, neither should students’ exposure to engineering concepts in the classroom. Withoutunpacking racial and cultural supremacy values held in society, engineers will further perpetuate, rather than disrupt, the normative standards of marginalization, oppression, exploitation, anddehumanization of groups (Semmes, 1995; Karwat, 2019). One of the ways engineering educatorsare seeking to address sustained injustice is through changes to engineering practice. For example

Introduction Reducing electricity demand is commonly seen as one of the most promising solutions tomitigating global climate change [1]. This is for good reason, since electricity productionconstituted 25% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, totaling nearly 1,625 million metric tonsof carbon dioxide in the United States [2]. When electricity consumers run consistently, powergeneration plants can run consistently which leads to their highest efficiency and lowest carbonemissions. To explain, baseload power generation plants typically operate

their components have evolved since the program was firstintroduced in 2019. As we know mentoring on a traditional note is obtained on a one on onebasis, and can be referred to as a mentor- proteges or dyad model [11]. For the initial cohort, weused a ‘triad’ to allow for a balance of perspectives from two mentors. The model involvedmatching the fellow with a community college professor and a university professor in similardisciplines. [Refer to Fig. 3].Figure 3. Original mentoring model for 2019 (left) involving triads.
